How to rank for 'treatment near me' as a clinic

You rank for "treatment near me" by targeting the real place - your suburb and city plus the treatment - not the phrase "near me" itself. When someone types "physio near me", Google quietly swaps "near me" for wherever that person actually is and shows them nearby clinics. So the job is not to chase two vague words. It is to be the obvious, trusted choice in your area for the treatment on offer.
This trips up a lot of clinic owners. They see "physio near me" getting thousands of searches a month and try to wedge "near me" into their page titles. It reads badly and it does nothing, because Google was never matching those words literally.
What 'near me' actually means to Google
"Near me" is a location instruction, not a keyword. Google reads it as "near wherever this person is right now" and uses their phone or device location to decide who is close. Two people searching the same words from different suburbs see completely different results. So there is no single "near me" ranking to win - there are as many versions as there are locations.
That is good news, actually. It means you do not need to out-rank every clinic in the country. You need to be the strongest option inside your own patch.
You never rank for "near me". You rank for being genuinely near the person who searched it - and clearly relevant to what they need.
Target the real place instead
Since Google fills in the location, you win by being unmistakably tied to that location. That means naming your actual suburb, town and city on your pages - in titles, headings and body text - alongside the treatment. "Sports physiotherapy in Takapuna" does far more for you than "physio near me" ever could, because it tells Google exactly where and what you are, and it matches how people search when they are being specific.
A simple approach:
- Name your suburb and city in your main page titles and headings
- Describe the areas you serve in plain language on your key pages
- Give each treatment its own page rather than burying everything on the homepage
- Keep your Google Business Profile address and service area accurate, since that is what "near me" leans on most
The map pack is where these searches are won
Most "near me" searches are answered by the map pack - those three local listings with the little map. If you are not in that block, you are largely invisible for these searches no matter how good your website is. Getting into it is a specific job, and I have laid it out in winning the Google map pack. The short version is proximity, a complete Google Business Profile, and a healthy stream of reviews all pull together.
Proximity you cannot change - your clinic is where it is. But the other levers you fully control, and most competitors leave them half-done.
Back it up with proper service pages
The map pack gets you seen; your website closes the deal and supports the ranking. When someone taps through, a page that speaks directly to their treatment and their area reassures them they are in the right place. A vague catch-all page makes them bounce back to the results and pick someone clearer.
This is why I push clinics towards a dedicated page per treatment - see service pages for clinics for how to build them without creating thin, repetitive filler. Each page becomes a clear signal that you handle that specific treatment in that specific area, which is exactly what a "near me" searcher is after.
Pulling it together
So, forget the phrase. To capture "treatment near me" searches:
- Name your actual suburb and city, not "near me", across your titles and pages
- Get into the map pack with a complete profile and steady reviews
- Give each treatment a focused page that matches how patients search
Do that and you will show up for the people who genuinely are near you - which is the only version of "near me" that ever mattered.
The general mechanics behind near-me results, and why your position changes from suburb to suburb, are in how to rank in the Google Map Pack.
